Speaking at the opening of the event, the head of the training program, the chairman of the board of Azerbaijan Creative Industries Federation, Vasif Eyvazzade said that representatives of the Ministry of Culture, State Tourism Agency, “Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve Department, University of Architecture and Construction, relevant scientific research institutes of Azerbaijan National Acamdey of Sciences were participating in a joint training program on heritage management for the first time, and the exchange of knowledge and experiences with this approach would only help to achieve the best management practices in our country.
On the second day of the training, the Chairman of the Management Board of the “Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve, Shahin Seyidzade, who participated as a guest speaker, expressed his appreciation for the training initiative and spoke about Icherisheher, which is included in the World Heritage sites list, its location plan, historical-architectural attributes, unique rich style, shared actual issues such as joint community participation in spatial management and protection measures with the participants of the training on concrete examples. Then he answered the questions of the training participants.
After the opening speeches, the trainer of the 2nd day of the training, Elshan Mustafayev, cultural heritage expert, advisor to the Chairman of the Management Board of the Reserves Management Center of the State Tourism Agency shared important information about factors such as violations of basic principles such as integrity and authenticity in heritage management. He also stated the importance of establishing inter-agency cooperation platforms with relevant local agencies on identification, research issues, important for examples of de-listing as well as tentative listings of heritage sites. In the training process, using interactive methods, a question-and-answer session was organized on specific cases and the questions were answered accordingly.
The training program ordered by the Ministry of Culture, implemented in partnership with the State Tourism Agency, “Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve Department and with the support of Azerbaijan Creative Industries Federation covers four main topics: “The best in cultural heritage as places that reflect national/local identity and contribute to the economic development of society practices”, “Cultural heritage policy and institutions: Themes and notes from the convention”, “Tangible and Intangible Heritage and Sustainable Development”, and “The role of cultural heritage in the socio-cultural development of the society (best practices, challenges and opportunities)” and will contribute to increasing the competence and skills of the participants in this field, as well as the effective organization of international cultural and creative activities and development of our country. The training program will continue and end on June 17.
